On Friday 14 October, H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco and President of the Portuguese Republic H.E. Mr Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa will officially open an exhibition in Lisbon that pays tribute to the friendship between two sovereigns and oceanographers: Prince Albert I of Monaco (1848–1922) and King Carlos I of Portugal (1863–1908), focusing on the voyages and scientific expeditions of Prince Albert I to Madeira, the Azores and Lisbon.

 

Organised by the “Albert I Committee – 2022” as part of the commemorations marking the centenary of the death of Albert I of Monaco, the exhibition will be held at the Museu de Marinha (Navy Museum). “This exhibition presents a wide range of artifacts and works, scientific instruments, paintings, original archived materials and previously unseen photographs from public and private Monegasque and Portuguese collections,” note the exhibition’s curators: Michaël Bloche, Director of the Monaco National Archives Preparatory Team, Thomas Fouilleron, Director of the Archives and Library of the Prince's Palace, Stéphane Lamotte, Secretary of the “Albert I Committee – 2022”, and Vincent Vatrican, Director of the Monaco Audiovisual Institute.
