Short story written by pupils at Institution François d’Assise Nicolas Barré
For secondary school pupils at the Institution François d’Assise - Nicolas Barré, not taking part in the commemorations marking the centenary of the death of Albert I of Monaco, launched in October 2020 by the Albert I Committee – 2022, was not an option”, wrote Ms Christine Lanzerini, the school’s headteacher, in her introductory editorial.
During the school’s “Open Doors” day on 24 May 2022, the parents of pupils and future pupils had the opportunity to view an exhibition of photographs taken by the Prince himself, as well as the activities offered by clubs such as the “Oceano Club”. In addition, they wrote a short story, offering a fictional take on the Prince’s life: “Albert I of Monaco, As Told by Secondary School Pupils”. This fictional account, written by pupils in Year 9 (4ème) with their history teachers, gives a non-exhaustive account of the life of Prince Albert I of Monaco.
The editorial continues: “There is no shortage of adjectives to describe his work. Between 1848 and 1922, Prince Albert I constantly travelled the world and crossed the oceans, worked to maintain peace in an increasingly strained international political context, and took an interest in humans, whether in the form of fossilised skeletons dating back to prehistoric times, or flesh-and-blood people, as when he defended the innocence and honour of the French army captain Alfred Dreyfus.”
