National Day, 19 November. Did you know?
The current National Day ceremony dates back to the reign of Prince Charles III, during the era when the Principality transformed into a modern and genuinely independent State.
With the exception of the date, few changes have been made since then.
In 1903, under Prince Albert I, the inspection held on 15 November involved only the Palace Guards, since the Company of Prince’s Guards was in the process of being dissolved. In 1911, the Fire and Emergency Service took part in the military review and has done ever since.
On 19 November 1952, a detachment from the Police took part alongside the Palace Guards and the Fire and Emergency Service for the first time.
