This exhibition explores Prince Albert I’s interest in transport, through 10 images that represent his connections with his era’s means of getting around.

The ultimate Traveller Prince was primarily known for his voyages at sea. He lived through a period of significant and rapid technological innovation in the field of transport. More and more different and faster means of transportation were invented, and he tested the majority of them.

In 1868, at La Condamine station, he witnessed the arrival of rail in Monaco, which opened up the Principality, as well as the major inventions of his era, such as the combustion engine, which accelerated the development of modern transport. He himself was involved in sailing, horse riding, motoring and motorcycling (he was a pioneer in the latter field). He was also interested in long-distance cycling (including on tandems and triplet bicycles), was an accomplished sportsman and sometimes made a direct contribution to progress.
